I Am Alone with the Pain

For those of you who do not know, April is Poetry Month. I may be a writer but poetry is not a strong suit for me. I believe  the last real poem I attempted to write was in grade school. Well, in the spirit of poetry month I would like to share a poem I wrote this past week.

'I Am Alone with the Pain' is dedicated to those who live with chronic pain on a daily bases.

'I Am Alone with the Pain'

This sensation ravaging my body, no one knows
they cannot understand why I moan and twitch about
And so, I am alone with the pain

There are those who claim they get it
Understand how the lightest of touches the softest movements can send shockwave after shake shockwave of agony throughout my body
And yet, I am alone with the pain

Those medically trained glare at me with doubt
The anguish within me they will never see, never understand my cries for help
The torture seeps deeper into my body as they turned their backs and walk away
And so, I am alone with the pain

I wish upon no one this curse that rips my body into two
From the outside those unafflicated souls will never know how I hide behind smiles or jokes
And yet, all I want to do is scream and shout
I am
I am
I am alone with the pain

Book 1: 'Winter Secret'
Winter Secret

She must choose which. After unwittingly witnessing a cold-blooded murder, Cynthia and Derek must escape the pursuit of three dangerous men who are after an item in their possession: a microchip that contains a secret formula to destroy a powerful country. In their attempts to return the chip to the rightful owner, they discover a love that defies all boundaries. But Derek cannot forget the reason he lives: to find the killer of his parents. Because of this ambition, his heart is sealed against love and filled only with revenge. Can a man like this ever love a woman? And if he does, can she survive the demands and intensity of his love and the ever-looming ghost of his past, a past steeped in danger, death, and heartbreak? With so much against them, will Cynthia and Derek's love survive? Or will a Winter Secret keep them apart?

My Review: 4 Stars!
‘Winter Secret’ is an enthralling page turning. I knew I was settling in to read a suspenseful romance, but I was not expecting all of the vigorous action. From page to page, chapter to chapter Gatewood has her characters, Cynthia and Derek, fighting to breathe life into the part of their journey. I followed Derek and Cynthia through harsh weather, kidnappings, nearly fatal wounds, and explosions all while an endearing new complicated relations tried to blossom. This story was intriguing from the first page and look forward to seeing what else is in store for the duo in the next book!
I received my copy of ‘Winter Secret’ free from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Book 2: Spring Promise

Spring Promise

The love between Derek and Cynthia was tested to the limit in the exciting first book Winter Secret, but will it be strong enough to withstand the continuing forces that strive to separate them? Once again, a new season brings new adventures and terror to the couple who ask for nothing except to be together. A mysterious relic in the form of an ancient map and key surfaces and ends up in the hands of Cynthia and Derek, who must once again discover its secrets. The pursuit of ancient hidden gold and treasure is a lure that draws greedy men into dangerous situations and ultimately interfaces the lives of Derek and Cynthia. Not only is Derek labeled a terrorist, but they are both drawn into the mysterious and threatening world of ancient legends and myths of the earliest Americans. Derek continues to struggle with the pursuit of the man who murdered his parents and his obsessive need for revenge, while Cynthia faces a new, personal, and unexpected threat to their continued union. Will they be able to stay together and keep the promises they made to each other or will the forces against them destroy the hopes of their Spring Promise? Spring Promise is the second book in the four-book "Winter Secret" series, each encompassing a season in the life of Derek Flynn and Cynthia Morrison.

My Review: 4 Stars!
‘Spring Promise’ starts pretty much where ‘Winter Secret’ let off. In this book, we are able to join Derek and Cynthia during the calm before the storm. The first few pages will lull you into thinking nothing could ever go wrong again for the happy couple. Yet, Gatewood has packed another thrilling ride of more secrets, treasures hunting, crazy weather, and a lethal vengeance that tries the once again tear the couple apart. This is a great read that will leave you wondering  who is lurking in the  shadows, and how will the couple make it through this next great feat.
