Rerouted Vacation

Hi Everyone!
How was your Labor Day? Mine was great! I spent it with my family, ate lots of barbecue...including shrimp I prepared on the grill, myself (go me!!), and packed for my ladies getaway with my bestie.
So our gameplan was to drive to Atlantic City for 2 nights, 3 days of relaxing on the beach, reading books and having drinks. Tuesday morning we set out on our adventure...a 7 hour drive from UpState, New York to Atlantic City, NJ. The drive was nice. We listened to a book on audio since neither of us can read while the car is in motion and drank lots of coffee. We made it to our destination in good time, and even quickly righted ourselves after Siri lead us to the side of the hotel (A very sketchy ally) instead of the main door.
This is when the fun started. We pull up to 'check in' at what looked like a security stand in the drive way (the fact that the man on duty was sitting on a lawn chair should have been our first indication something was wrong.) We stopped the car and said we had a reservation and where should we park. The kind young man informed us that we had no reservation. We thought he was joking until he went on to say that the hotel/casino went into bankruptcy and closed its doors 5 am that morning. The last guests left the night before. We were floored! He had to repeat and explain 4 more times that there was no way we were going into the hotel...which I then noticed that barricades and other roadblocks circled the hotel and parking lot. My bestie and I went into damaged control. While I looked up what the hell happened to this massive structure sitting in front of us (Revel hotel and casino) my friend starting looking up other hotels for us to stay in.
At first we were going to drive to a Hilton about an hour away (we wanted nothing to do with the area we were in. In a matter of moments we decided we would probably never enter the Atlantic City area ever again...don't judge us!) We started to make our trip to this new hotel when we decided why bother staying in the New Jersey area at all. We pulled over, cleared our heads, and then made the most logical plan ever. Why not go to NYC?!?!? We were already to far away from home to turn back and NJ wasn't looking so hot any more. After another round of phone calls, booking a new room and canceling our other booked in haste room, we made a 2 and 1/2 hour trek back to NY and the City.

Although I've lived in NY all my life, I have never visited the city. I have to tell you it was the best idea we could have come up with! Here are some pictures of our visit.
Time Square!!!

We went to the Top of the Rock! Rockefeller Center. Do you see Central Park behind us?

Time Square at night. My main goal and only thing on my must do in NYC was see Time Square at night. It was beautiful! One of our goof pictures. Are we cute? Lol.

Me! The arm at the top right was some guy posing for a picture. You can see his photographer behind me. The guy posing had to move over because his first time throwing his arms in the air he smacked me in the back of the head. Glad he's not in my picture too.
